I’m Michael Rogerson. I’m a director and producer of theatre and film.

Silencio Projects is my production label.

I’m originally from Chicago — I’m now based in Brooklyn.

Silencio Projects’ origins come from Northwestern University — along with some regular collaborators from school, I decided to form a small DIY theatre company in Chicago that exclusively focused on site-specific productions of formally challenging contemporary plays. Projects that were produced during this time include the Midwest premiere of Christopher Chen’s Home Invasion, the Midwest premiere of Marius von Mayenburg’s The Dog, the Night, and the Knife (in partnership with Fulton Street Collective), and a basement-rock-show version of Enda Walsh’s Disco Pigs, which played multiple sold out runs in real DIY venues in Logan Square. (The original company consisted of Ty DeFrancisco, Sophie Neff, Sean Gundersen, and Collin Quinn Rice.)

In 2020, the pandemic halted live-theatre and scattered the members of the original collective — I moved to Brooklyn and began to expand the scope and mission of my work.

Since then, I produced and directed the US premiere of Simon Longman’s Gundog (co-produced by CultureLab LIC), a pair of music videos for experimental classical musician Telo Hoy for his album Rubber Wing, and a short horror film called All the Way Down, This Time, which played at Queens International Film Festival and won best short at Queer Fear Film Festival.

I recently assisted Les Waters on his production of Eliya Smith’s Grief Camp at Atlantic Theatre Company. I’ve also worked with Ars Nova, NYU, Quinnipiac University, Victory Gardens, Steep Theater, Third Rail Projects, and Albany Park Theatre Project, among others.

I graduated from Northwestern University in 2016, and I’ve trained with Anne Bogart’s SITI company.
